Saint John Regional Hospital aims to be smoke-free

(Saint John) September 29, 2014 - Horizon Health Network is seeking your thoughts and ideas surrounding a pilot program to transform the Saint John Regional Hospital into a smoke-free campus. Your opinion will help impact the hospital's goal to provide a healthier environment for the community.

As a health-care institution and leaders for a healthy tomorrow, the Saint John Regional Hospital is not just committed to healing illness, but also to promoting wellness. A healthy environment is one free of the effects of smoking and second hand smoke.

Currently, there is a 'safe smoke-free environment' policy at all Horizon facilities. The proposed changes at the Saint John Regional Hospital would expand on this policy to include a property-wide smoking ban, while providing additional resources and cessation supports for inpatients, staff, and visitors. Changes to the policy will promote health and wellness.

Whether you are a smoker, a former smoker, or a non-smoker, we would love to hear from you. What challenges do you foresee to the hospital becoming a tobacco free facility? How can we meet these challenges?

If you would like to take part in an upcoming engagement session, please call us toll-free at 1-855-661-0661, or share your thoughts in survey now available online at www.HorizonNB.ca: On-line Community Feedback Survey (You need to save the PDF form onto your desktop to email or print it). Together we can improve the health of our community.
