10th annual Dr. Robert Tingley Memorial Lecture Series

SAINT JOHN (Monday, June 16, 2014)

Media Invitation -

Members of the media are invited to attend the 10th annual Dr. Robert Tingley Memorial Lecture Series, hosted by Saint John Regional Hospital's Department of Pediatrics, June 18, between 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the Saint John Regional Hospital, level one amphitheater.

This year's keynote address will be presented by Dr. Gilles Julien, CEO, La Fondation du Dr Julien. Dr. Julien is widely recognized at both the local and international level for his expertise in the development of disadvantaged children, the prevention of neglect, abuse, and mistreatment, as well as the impact of social and economic inequalities on the global health of children.

Dr. Julien, along with Dr. Marianne McKenna, Laura Stymiest, medical student, and members of Dr. Tingley's family will be available following the lecture to answer questions.

In conjunction with the lecture series, Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick and the Department of Pediatrics are celebrating their new Social Pediatrics elective, the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada. The elective focuses on the social determinants of child health and teaches the physician's role in addressing children's social health needs through inter professional collaboration and advocacy.

The Dr. Robert Tingley Memorial Lecture series is held annually in honour of Dr. Tingley, a Pediatrician and Infectious Disease Physician who passed away in 2004, at the age of 33, after a battle with brain cancer.
