Awards of Distinction in Nursing

Horizon is proud to recognize and celebrate nurses and their contributions within the organization. 

The annual Awards of Distinction in Nursing recognize nursing professionals who demonstrate qualities valued by the profession and exemplify Horizon's mission, vision and values.

Nurses are nominated annually in four categories: Clinical Practice, Leadership, Mentorship and Nursing Novice.

On October 15, 2020, 16 Horizon nursing professionals were virtually recognized with Awards of Distinction by the Nursing Quality and Professionalism Committee and Horizon's Vice President Clinical Services/Chief Nursing Officer.

Recipients were honoured for their contributions, as well as for their excellence in nursing practice. Read more below!

Miramichi Area

Jacqueline Hare, RN

Carolyn is recognized as a humble, silent and organized leader. Her calm demeanour keeps staff focused during chaotic times.

Nursing Novice
Jessica Marshall, LPN

Jessica is a patient, empathic, thorough and dedicated LPN who truly cares about each and every one of her patients. She has a positive attitude that radiates on the unit. She puts her heart and soul into her work.

Moncton Area

Clinical Practice
Karen Hicks, LPN

Karen has worked as an LPN in orthopedics for the majority of her career. She constantly embraces change to ensure the best clinical practice procedures are applied for her patients.

Keira Strang, RN

Keira is always aware of sensitive issues and ensures confidentiality while managing intricate situations. She is admired by her colleagues for being a steadfast advocate to them.

Saint John Area

Clinical Practice
Tracy Adams, RN
Horizon's Saint John Regional Hospital, Orthopedics
Tracey was instrumental in the development of a pre-op teaching patient guide, and discharge material for tracheostomy care at home. She is a leader in her field.

Karen Bedford, RN

Karen excels in her leadership role and is respected and trusted amongst staff.

Patti Reid-Shore, LPN

Patti teaches compassion and empathy through leading by example. She reminds her co-workers to advocate for their patients and to be caring and understanding.

Brenda supports a team of 25 professionals, she always prioritizes the needs of clients and families above her own. She invests personal time in gaining knowledge on the latest drug therapies that will improve patient care.
