Shelley Francis

Shelley Francis is Wolastoquey from Ne-goot-gook Nation at Tobique and has been providing nursing services in New Brunswick First Nations communities for almost 30 years using a "Two-Eyed Seeing" approach to health care delivery. During her career, she has worked in a variety of capacities including community health nurse, diabetes consultant, nursing teacher and mental health practitioner and manager. As Executive Director of the Mawlugutineg Mental Wellness Services Inc., she works to decolonize access to mental health services for Mi'kmaq communities in northeast New Brunswick and offers culturally safe and compassionate care for community members and their families. Shelley supports community healing through both traditional and western methods, and collaborates with allied agencies to improve services to the communities she serves. Shelley has three adult children and recently moved from Fredericton to the Miramichi area with her partner Jerry, to be close to her workplace with the communities she loves.
