Medications Used For Your Heart

Important tips to remember:

  • Keep a record of your medications with you at all times and update it regularly. This includes over the counter medications, supplements and herbal products
  • Remember to bringallof your medications with you when you see your doctor or come to the hospital. This allows your health care professional to know exactly what medications you are currently taking and how you are taking them.  It also helps to ensure you are on the right medication for your present medical condition.
  • It is important foryouto know and understand your medications. Know what they are called, know what they look like, know what they are used for and know exactly how to take them  If you are unsure of any of these questions, always ask your health care professional
  • Never crush a coated tablet unless otherwise directed by your health-care professional. Some tablets have a special coating that helps the drug to act for a longer time in your body and this may be destroyed if crushed or chewed.
  • Whenever possible, it is a good idea to get your medications filled at the same community pharmacy. This allows you to build a relationship with your community pharmacist so they can help monitor your medications and help you select appropriate over-the-counter products that will not interfere with your current medications.
