President and CEO of Horizon Health Network Announces Retirement
(Horizon) April 21, 2016 - John McGarry, President and CEO of Horizon Health Network announced his retirement at a public board meeting on April 21st, 2016 held in Saint John. McGarry stated that he will not be renewing his contract, which expires in January 2017, and looks forward to retirement.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time serving as CEO of Horizon Health Network and working with many wonderful New Brunswickers as we strive to provide exceptional care," said John McGarry, President and CEO of Horizon Health Network. "The challenges in health care are enormous, but I believe we have worked together to create a plan for a healthier New Brunswick."
McGarry worked in health care as a senior health care administrator for over 30 years, in Nova Scotia, Ontario and New Brunswick, before becoming President and CEO of Horizon Health Network in February 2013.
Over the course of his leadership McGarry was instrumental in implementing a patient and family centred model of care across Horizon, and developing a 5 year strategic plan, while maintaining a balanced budget. He placed a special emphasis on improving staff, physician and community engagement and relationship building.
Throughout his tenure as President and CEO, McGarry was a strong advocate for changes to New Brunswick's health care system, encouraging partner to find better solutions for care of the province's aging population.
McGarry will continue to advocate for those changes and implement the strategic plan in his final months as CEO. He looks forward to working with the Department of Health as they search for his replacement and offers his full support during the transition period.
McGarry looks forward to spending more time with family and new grandchildren in his retirement.
