Rexton Health Centre Offers Free Health Club

(MONCTON)  July 11, 2016 - The Rexton Health Centre hosts a cost-free, year-round Health Club program for its patients and members of the public. The club offers direct access to health care professionals who provide participants with valuable advice and support for healthy living.

Objectives of the Health Club are to improve the dietary and exercise habits of its members, assist with the prevention of chronic disease, and improve the overall health of the community.

Every Friday, nurses meet with club members individually, from 1 to 3 p.m., for one-on-one counselling in hour-long appointments. Clients are accepted on a walk-in basis. Sessions include a review of members' healthy living goals and tips on how to achieve a healthy lifestyle that includes good nutrition and regular exercise.

Participants are asked to report to the centre every second week to monitor their weight, blood pressure and exercise progress. Diabetic patients and people with hypertension are encouraged to join the club and receive the blood pressure, medication and diet-related checks that are part of the program.

Anyone can participate in the Health Club and can join at any time.

The Rexton Health Centre is located at 33 Main Street and can be accessed by travelling on Route 134.
