New Chief of Staff for Moncton Area
(Moncton) October 30, 2018 - Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is pleased to announce Dr. Ken Gillespie as the new Chief of Staff for Moncton and surrounding area.
In his new role, Dr. Gillespie is responsible to advise the Regional Medical Advisory Committee on the quality of care and safety topics as well as advise the Regional Chief of Staff on items involving health care access for the people of Moncton and surrounding area. Dr. Gillespie will also chair the Local Medical Advisory Committee for the Moncton area.
Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Dr. Gillespie attended medical
school and residency at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Upon
completing his residency, he came to The Moncton Hospital to open
an obstetrics and gynaecology practice in 1999.
"It is a great honour for me to be the next Chief of Staff for the
Moncton area. I look forward to working with fellow medical
advisory committee members to build stronger ties with the
communities we serve, while focussing on what matters most to our
patients," said Dr. Gillespie. "These are exciting times for us all
with the addition of a new building at The Moncton Hospital, and I
am proud to be part of it and other initiatives that help us give
the best possible patient experiences we can give."
As a member of the medical staff at Horizon's The Moncton Hospital, Dr. Gillespie has served as Clinical Department Head for Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Medical Director for the Women & Children's Health program. He is actively involved in the planning of the new Women and Children's building at Horizon's The Moncton Hospital. This new building will be a significant addition to Horizon resources to help the organization better serve both the Moncton community and families from around the province.
Dr. Gillespie assumed his duties beginning September 28, 2018. He replaces Dr. Serge Melanson who has held this position since 2015. Horizon would like to thank Dr. Melanson for his exemplary leadership, and offer sincere congratulations on his new role with the New Brunswick Medical Society.
