Upper River Valley Hospital among top 30 most technologically advanced hospitals in the world

The Upper River Valley Hospital (URVH) has been listed as one of the 30 most technologically advanced hospitals in the world, according to Top Master's in Healthcare Administration. Sitting at number 28, between a hospital in Bristol (UK) and in New Jersey (US), the URVH is distinguished for being an eco-friendly facility.

The URVH's eco credentials include an inclusive, environmentally-friendly design and a clinical electronic documentation system. In 2009, the URVH was designated as the first full service hospital in Canada to be recognized as a leader in energy and environmental design. "It is a great honor to see the Upper River Valley Hospital recognized on the world stage.  Our community is extremely fortunate to have the first eco-friendly, technologically advanced hospital in Canada here to serve our patients", said Dean Cummings, Executive Director, Upper River Valley.

The URVH achieved a Silver designation by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a nationally recognized rating system for green building performance. LEED rated buildings have been shown to significantly increase the quality of the building environment and reduce its operating costs. A Silver LEED level represents a significant reduction in building environmental impact, improved indoor environment, and includes operational and energy efficiencies.

From a health-care perspective, the greatest benefit of a LEED certified building provides a healthy indoor environment protecting the immediate health of patients, staff and visitors, while minimizing impact on natural resources.

Health-care providers at the URVH are also operating electronically, while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Through a portable bedside computer, patient information is recorded electronically at the bedside. This allows for seamless information transfer to the central hospital computer system and improves access to important health information for physicians or other health-care providers.
